A Message from the EAF President

Barbara F. Sutton"The Mission of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation, Inc. is to promote lifelong learning. This is accomplished by securing charitable contributions, gifts and endowed funds to award scholarships, fellowships and grants."

EAF was started in 1980 with $10,000 in seed money donated by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. We begin this 2014-2018 Administration with assets that have grown to over $10 million, a vision of continued growth and a commitment to educate our young people and serve our communities. Because of the growth in membership, corporate donors and investments, EAF has been able to award over $3.5 million in scholarships and community assistance awards to over 3,000 students and community organizations around the world. We will not stop there; we will “Launch New Dimensions of Educational Excellence” by leveraging EAF program initiatives to continue to make a difference to the students and communities we serve.

EAF will lead the way by providing more undergraduate and graduate merit/financial needs scholarships and endowment funding to students. We will increase community support by providing more community assistance awards to our community organizations who are working to make a difference in our neighborhoods. We will insure that these goals can be met by continuing our existing partnerships with Marriott International, Hilton Hotels, RG Apparel, Inc. and 14 Karat Plus, Inc.; cultivating new partnerships with Federal Express and 3M, and growing our assets through increased revenues and sound investment decisions.

To support the program initiatives, we will not lose sight of the role that technology has to play in keeping EAF functioning effectively and efficiently. In 2014, we moved EAF to the cloud, launched a mobile giving application and established eblast communication capabilities. In 2015, we will begin the design and implementation of a paperless scholarship system.

As we move forward, we will continue to have hands-on service by visiting colleges and universities and working in the communities that we support. We will insure that the program initiatives remain flexible while providing programming continuity across administrations. The future of EAF remains full of challenges; we will continue to overcome these challenges as we “Launch New Dimensions of Educational Excellence”. EAF encourages the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and our corporate and private partners to continue their support. It is needed to ensure that we can continue to advocate for our scholars and hard-working community organizations.
