A Message from the EAF President

Barbara A. McKinzie

Charity, philanthropy and giving are empowering, inspiring, humbling and the most noble of deeds. The Bible is filled with parables that testify to the blessings of giving.

America is steeped in a tradition of giving. Whether it’s to aid those devastated by a catastrophic tsunami in Indonesia, or to help those in New Orleans whose lives have been uprooted by Katrina, we, as a nation, have opened our hearts and treasure trove to help those in need.

African Americans are particularly generous, and this is a by-product of our unconditional love and our particular sensitivity to the plight of others. We have raised other people’s children, provided the foundation that has strengthened our communities and been the spiritual nourishment for our churches. Our race is built on a foundation of giving.

Think about the overwhelming sensation you’ve felt when you’ve donated time, treasure and resources to a cause. Reflect on the warmth that enveloped you as you witnessed how your benevolence effected positive change.

You don’t have to have great wealth to give. Giving is not about how much money you have to spare. It’s about a resolve to give what you can to uplift, improve and make a difference.

Alpha Kappa Alpha was founded on the bedrock of charity. As a sisterhood, we have galvanized around human tragedies, and our history is chronicled with stories of how our Sorority’s philanthropy made the difference in a life, a community and a nation.

The nine founders of this great Sorority had an underlying desire to create a vehicle where her members could contribute to scholarship funds, relief efforts, endowments and an array of initiatives designed to aid and improve the lot of those in need. Driven by the resolve to provide “service to all mankind,” our charitable presence has made an impression in communities worldwide.

Our generosity has provided a “way out of no way.” Through our scholarship efforts, students who had once abandoned ideas of going to college were given that chance.

The Educational Advancement Foundation (EAF) was conceived on a commitment to philanthropy. Under EAF, we have beamed a laser-like focus on giving. Under its aegis is a wide array of charitable vehicles that appeal to every conceivable persuasion.

Make your selection and make a commitment.
